Paul McKenna returns to broadcasting to host Boom Radio show
Renowned author and hypnotherapist Paul McKenna is returning to broadcasting 33 years after he left a successful radio career, to host a show on Boom Radio.
He’s the latest presenter to return to the airwaves on Boom Radio after Simon Bates joined the station last month to host a weekly show.
McKenna will present a two-hour show on the national DAB music radio station this Saturday, 9 September from midday.
During the show, Paul will play some of his favourite music stretching back to the 1960s and share some stories from his 40-year career as a DJ, author and hypnotherapist.
“I’m very excited about doing this special show on Boom”, said McKenna. “My love of radio has never gone away. I’m can’t wait to share some of my favourite tracks with listeners and maybe even tell a few stories from my radio days along the way”.
Paul, who as a hypnotherapist has sold over 12 million books, started his career working as a radio DJ. He won a competition to present a “young DJ slot” on London’s Capital Radio when he was a teenager, before getting a Saturday job as one of the resident Radio Top Shop DJs in the Oxford Street fashion store.
“It was the best Saturday job! While my friends were off stacking shelves, I was living the dream playing records,” remembered McKenna.
His big break came in 1983, aged 20, when he joined Radio Caroline. Then, after a stint on Chiltern Radio, he joined Capital Radio before moving to BBC Radio 1.
After becoming interested in hypnotherapy in the 1980s, McKenna was soon selling out theatres with his hypnotherapist shows and being courted by television production companies. In 1990 he left BBC Radio 1.
Boom Radio’s programme director David Lloyd said: “For someone to have two hugely successful and very different careers is rare – and we’re really pleased that Paul’s agreed to indulge his passion for radio once again. His love for radio to this day is clear.”
