Nick Grimshaw launches Glastonbury 2025 on 6 Music breakfast

BBC Radio 6 Music’s Glastonbury 2025 coverage began this morning with Nick Grimshaw broadcasting live from Worthy Farm for the first time this year.

His Breakfast Show kicked off 58 hours of live programming from the festival site, running through to Sunday 29 June.

Nick was joined on air by Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis, just after she and her father Michael officially opened the gates to festivalgoers. “It was really joyous,” she said. “We had loads of Sudanese volunteers from Oxfam helping us open the gates and we did a massive countdown – it was brilliant.”

Reflecting on the scale of preparations, Emily added: “So much goes into it – the speculation, the press, the noise – but in the end it’s really just about people having the best time over the next five days. That’s quite moving.”

She also shared details about a new low volume opening ceremony on the Pyramid Stage, featuring drummers, trapeze artists and a refugee choir, designed to fit the local sound rules.

“It’s what the festival is really all about – not the big names, but celebrating the arts in all its forms,” Emily said.

Nick’s show also featured guests from across the festival’s creative spaces and a Glastonbury edition of Cloudbusting, with music selected by performers including Jungle, Groove Armada and Hot Chip.

BBC Radio 6 Music’s coverage of Glastonbury 2025 includes live sets, special shows and artist takeovers across the weekend.
