Beyoncé’s dad says London is ahead of the music curve

Dr Mathew Knowles, the legendary music executive and father of Beyoncé, joined Capital XTRA Breakfast with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie this morning.
During the discussion, he declared that London has a “better grasp on music” than the United States.
Speaking about his connection to the London College of Contemporary Music, Knowles said he was drawn to the UK’s capital by both its talent and its music knowledge.
“London has incredible talent,” he said. “Actually, in my opinion, it has a better grasp on music than America… You folks would actually read the liner notes. That curiosity is here.”
He pointed to the city’s diversity as a key factor behind its musical strength, praising its vibrant scenes in EDM and Afrobeats and calling London “ahead of the curve” from a music executive’s perspective.
Dr Knowles also shared insights into what it takes to succeed in the music business. Speaking about his work with students, he said the two essential qualities for artists are passion and work ethic.
“I only want students that want to be great. Good doesn’t work for me,” he told listeners. “If you don’t have passion and work ethics, you’ll fail at this. There’s a lot of 13-hour days in the music and entertainment industry. That comes with it if you want to be great.”
