Dolly Parton teases Absolute Radio Country over ACM Awards performance
Appearing on Absolute Radio Country, Dolly Parton teased her 2023 ACM Awards performance will be “the biggest thing I’ve ever done”.
The country singer is co-hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards in Texas this Thursday 11 May.
Speaking to the station’s Jennie Longdon ahead of the event, Dolly talked about how she’s readying herself for a very special performance at the awards.
“It’s a world exclusive from my rock ‘n’ roll album. The album’s called ‘Rock Star” and it’s a song about the times,” Dolly told Jennie. “To try and knock a little sense into our hearts and heads. It’s about what we can do to come together a little more, care a little more about each other and make this world a better place to live in until we blow it all to pieces.
“It’s called ‘The World’s on Fire’. It’s a big production number and we’re going to be doing a big production number. One of the biggest things I’ve ever done on stage – or the biggest thing I’ve ever done,” she added.
Next year marks 50 years since ‘I Will Always Love You’ was released, and Dolly joked: “I can’t believe that song is 50 years old. I didn’t even know I was that old!”
She also spoke about her iconic career, saying that she never imitated other people but stayed on the road she felt she was supposed to walk. “I’m my own competition. I just try to do better and better,” she said.
And on offering advice to new artists, she joked: “If you walk a mile in my shoes, you’ll never walk again!”, then added: “Stay true to your talent and to yourself.”
