Fatboy Slim remixes seminal album for 6 Music Goes Back to the 90s
As part of 6 Music Goes Back to the 90s, Fatboy Slim has mixed up his classic album You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby.
In a twist on Steve Lamacq’s 6 Music Album Club, artists this month have been asked to mix up a seminal record of theirs, changing up the order, tempos and structure of the album. The result is a new piece of work made from their own classic album.
You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby celebrates it’s 25th anniversary this year. Reaching number one in the UK Albums Chart, the album generated four singles: “The Rockafeller Skank”, “Gangster Tripping”, “Praise You”, and “Right Here, Right Now” – becoming a seminal dance music record of it’s time.
Fatboy Slim says that he had a disordinate amount of fun doing the mix up – finding the original multi-tracks and tunes he sampled: “It was good to revisit the album and mash it up,” he says.
It will air tonight at 6.30pm for Steve Lamacq’s 6 Music Album Club – Mixed Up, and you can listen back to Fatboy Slim’s album mix on BBC Sounds from 7pm.
