Carol Decker from T’Pau to perform for Radio 2’s Piano Room

On his BBC Radio 2 show this morning, Vernon Kay revealed that the next artist to perform for Radio 2’s Piano Room is Carol Decker from T’Pau.
Carol will perform accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra and directed by conductor/arranger Cliff Masterson, at the Maida Vale studios.
She will perform on Thursday 22 May and it will also be on BBC Sounds and iPlayer.
Carol said: “I thought I’d have a go at joining a band in 1985, I can’t quite believe that 40 years later I still seem be getting away with it.”
She also left a voicenote for Vernon which he played on the show, saying: “I’m so excited to be your next guest in the Radio 2 Piano Room.
“I’ll be performing a couple of my classic hits and something rather unexpected with the BBC Concert Orchestra and you can hear it three weeks today so make sure you listen on Radio 2 or on BBC Sounds on Thursday 22 May, and I can’t wait to see you Vernon!”
Carol formed T’Pau with guitarist and fellow songwriter Ron Rogers in 1986. Originally named Talking America, the band later changed their name to T’Pau – after a Vulcan elder in the sci-fi series Star Trek.
Success came early to the band with the single Heart and Soul in 1987, helped by its inclusion in a jeans commercial. Their follow up single China in Your Hand was a huge success in the UK, spending a total of five weeks at number one on the singles charts.
Their debut album Bridge of Spies went quadruple Platinum and featured a total of five hit singles including I Will Be with You, Sex Talk, and Valentine.
Carol has also developed a name for herself on stage and screen, appearing on television shows including Hit Me, Baby, One More Time, Trigger Happy TV, and Just the Two of Us. She has also trod the boards in London in the play Mum’s the Word, and recently was a guest star in the touring production of Now That’s What I Call A Musical.
