Bash Croft reveals what happened when James Acaster became a Traitor

Celebrity Traitors winner Bash Croft has revealed how the cast reacted when James Acaster confessed he had been recruited as a Traitor.

Speaking to Jordan North, Chris and Sian Welby on Capital Breakfast, Bash looked back at the dramatic moments inside the castle, including James Acaster’s unexpected confession and the banishment of James Blunt.

Bash explained that despite The Celebrity Traitors being only in its second series, the format continues to produce moments that have never happened before.

“The fact that there’s still new things happening every series. This is the first series a Traitor has admitted they were a Traitor in the first episode and then been voted out and they were a Traitor,” he said.

He added that the experience was full of unexpected developments, with the contestants never quite knowing what might happen next.

The conversation also turned to the famous round table discussions, with Sian asking how long they actually last when the cameras are rolling.

Bash revealed that the discussions can take considerably longer than viewers might expect, estimating that they usually last between 45 minutes and an hour.

He also explained that life inside the castle leaves contestants with little understanding of time, as the pressure of potentially being murdered or banished keeps everyone constantly on edge.

Describing the atmosphere, Bash said: “The amount of adrenaline that is pumping through your body every day because every morning you could go and then you have a day of a mission, and then every evening you could go again, and someone’s just gone!”

He admitted the experience was difficult, adding: “You’re constantly in fight or flight, it’s horrible.”

Jordan also asked whether Bash had been in touch with James Blunt following his dramatic banishment, after the singer appeared less than impressed during the round table.

Bash reassured listeners that James was doing well and had taken the experience in good spirits.

He said: “Aw bless him, I have and he’s in good spirits. He’s such a legend and taking it all the best he can, a true gentleman!”

Bash also opened up about how he landed his place on the show, revealing that he was approached rather than having to go through the usual audition process.

As a huge fan of The Traitors, he was thrilled by the opportunity but admitted he was initially nervous about joining a cast featuring so many familiar faces.

“I was aware I would be one of the less known people and there’s so many national treasures in there and it was kind of a sink or swim situation,” he explained.

Bash also revealed that he had no idea how he had come across on screen until the episodes were broadcast, meaning he was watching his own experience unfold alongside everyone else.
