Lisa Faulkner has spoken about discovering she had breast cancer while touring a play, revealing how performing on stage helped her cope with the diagnosis.
The actress and TV presenter joined John Torode on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning, where the couple discussed their new cookbook, Weeknight Dinners.
During the conversation, Lisa explained that she discovered she had early breast cancer after having a mammogram while working on a theatre production.
She told Chris Moyles: “I was on tour and I was doing a play and then I had a mammogram. And they found very early breast cancer.”
Chris described the news as terrifying, with Lisa explaining that continuing to perform gave her a welcome distraction during an incredibly difficult period.
She said: “Being on stage was amazing because I could put it in a box for four hours every night and it was amazing to have that.”
Lisa revealed that her operation took place just four days after she finished the tour, meaning she spent the summer undergoing surgery before moving on to radiotherapy.
She told the Radio X presenter: “I spent the whole summer having horrible surgery and then I had radiotherapy and now I’m all fine.”
Dominic Byrne, who was also part of the conversation, congratulated Lisa on her recovery, saying: “Well done. That’s really good news.”
The interview came as Lisa and John discussed Weeknight Dinners, their new cookbook, which brings the couple together to share their approach to cooking.
The pair regularly combine their television and food careers, with their latest book focusing on meals suited to everyday life.
Listen to The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X weekdays from 6.30am – 10am and on Saturday from 8am – 11am across the UK and on YouTube.
