Deacon Blue frontman Ricky Ross will host a special edition of Sounds of the 70s in August.
The Scottish musician, songwriter and broadcaster will sit in for Shaun Keaveny on Sunday 9 August, sharing a selection of his favourite songs from the decade.
The one-off BBC Radio 2 show will explore Ricky’s own 70s record collection, alongside stories from his early musical years and the artists who inspired him.
Ricky grew up listening to music from the era and says the decade had a major influence on his own career.
He said: “I’m so excited to be sitting in for one of my favourite radio shows. I grew up listening to Johnnie Walker and so much of my own music was influenced by what I heard and loved in the 70’s.
“I’m planning to take you on a journey through my own record collection from that brilliant decade.”
The Deacon Blue singer formed the band in 1985, with the group going on to enjoy success with hits including Dignity and Real Gone Kid.
Alongside his music career, Ricky is also a broadcaster and presents BBC Radio Scotland’s Americana and roots music show Another Country.
He has toured the UK and Ireland with solo material and readings from his 2022 memoir, Walking Back Home: Deacon Blue and Me.
In June this year, Ricky and his Deacon Blue bandmates were recognised for their 40-year contribution to Scottish culture with an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Glasgow.
Deacon Blue are also set to appear at Radio 2 in the Park in Stirling on Sunday 13 September this year.
