Emma Bunton has announced she will host a special show oo Heart to celebrate 30 years since the Spice Girls released their debut single, Wannabe.
The exclusive Spice Girls Day programme will air on Wednesday 8 July at 7pm, marking the anniversary of the song that launched one of the biggest pop groups in the world.
Emma shared the news during her Sunday afternoon show on Heart, reflecting on the milestone and inviting listeners to join her for an evening dedicated to the band’s music and memories.
She said: “This year it is thirty years since that all happened. Wow, isn’t that crazy to think that it has been thirty years? But what a thirty years it has been!”
The singer and presenter reminded listeners that Wannabe was released on 8 July 1996, making this week’s anniversary the perfect opportunity for a station wide celebration.
Announcing the special broadcast, Emma said: “That’s why on Wednesday, which is July 8th, Heart are celebrating the Spice Girls! Yes, we’re having a Spice Girls Day. How cool is that!”
She also revealed what fans can expect from the one off show.
Emma said: “At seven o’clock I am taking over the evening show with a very special show with memories and messages and of course lots and lots of Spice Girl songs. So, I’d love it if you could join me then!”
Wannabe became an instant global success when it was released in 1996, reaching number one in the UK before topping charts around the world and introducing the Spice Girls to millions of fans.
Three decades later, the song remains one of Britain’s most recognisable pop anthems and continues to be celebrated by new generations of listeners.
