Radio 2 to broadcast Sam Smith London concert highlights

BBC Radio 2 will broadcast highlights from Sam Smith’s To Be Free residency at London’s historic Coliseum later this month.

Jo Whiley will feature highlights from the concert during her BBC Radio 2 show on Thursday 24 September, alongside a new interview with Sam.

The concert will be recorded on Wednesday 9 September at the London Coliseum as part of the UK leg of Sam’s To Be Free residency, with BBC One also set to bring the performance to television later this month.

Both the TV programme and Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 broadcast will be available afterwards on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

Sam Smith said: “My ‘To Be Free’ residencies across the world have been such incredible live experiences. I’m delighted to invite some wonderful new artists onto the stage for these shows and share in the moment with them.”

The residency will also provide a platform for emerging UK artists, with BBC Introducing and Sam selecting 10 acts to open dates across Manchester and London.

The chosen artists represent a range of genres and styles, including pop, folk-rock, R&B and neo-soul, as part of the residency’s Manchester and London dates.

Sam will perform two nights at Manchester’s Albert Hall before moving to the London Coliseum for eight performances, following the release of the singer’s latest album Hazel Eyes in August.

Sam Smith has won five GRAMMY Awards and holds two Guinness World Records, including the record for the most consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10 Album Chart.
