Zoe Ball has made her Greatest Hits Radio debut, launching her new weekday afternoon show with an upbeat musical choice.
Opening her first Zoe Ball in the Afternoon, Zoe welcomed listeners and revealed she was particularly excited to be reunited with Ken Bruce as her radio neighbour.
She said: “I can tell you excitement levels currently peaking. Thanks to Ken, I am so thrilled to be his radio neighbour once again.”
Zoe will present the show from Monday to Friday between 1pm and 4pm, before handing over to Simon Mayo, who follows her afternoon programme each day.
Zoe added: “Mondays to Fridays from 1 till 4 I will be here before handing you over each day to the mighty Simon Mayo. Adore him.”
There was also plenty of anticipation around the first song Zoe would play on Greatest Hits Radio, with listeners sharing their suggestions across the weekend.
Among those receiving a mention were Dave Fox, who predicted Led Zeppelin’s Rock’n’Roll, while Anne Miles suggested Nina Simone’s Feeling Good.
One listener, Dennis from Shoreham, opted for Elton John’s The Bitch Is Back, giving Zoe another memorable suggestion as she prepared to reveal her choice.
However, Zoe had something rather different in mind for the opening track, choosing a song she felt matched the occasion and the sound of her new afternoon programme.
Introducing the track, she said: “First song on Greatest Hits Radio. It’s got to be big. Big production, big sound, big feels. Not sure many of you guessed this one.”
She then revealed the first song would be I’ve Got the Music in Me by The Kiki Dee Band.
