Bob Harris has revealed he is beginning a new round of intensive treatment as he continues living with stage four prostate cancer.
In a post on Instagram, the presenter says his cancer has been getting more of a hold during his time away from BBC Radio 2, although he continues to feel well and remains focused on the future.
Bob stepped back from his Radio 2 programmes earlier this year to concentrate on treatment and rest and says the break has also given him the chance to enjoy valuable time with family and friends.
Reflecting on the past few months, he said the time at home had provided a “most beautiful summer” and allowed him to enjoy what he described as a “most precious commodity… TIME”.
Bob has now started an intensive course of intravenous radiotherapy, saying he and his medical team are confident the treatment will keep the cancer “at bay”.
He expects to know the outcome of the treatment quite soon, while acknowledging the emotional impact of continuing to live with cancer and the uncertainty surrounding his diagnosis.
Bob mentioned Chris Hoy, who has spoken publicly about living with stage four prostate cancer, saying: “Chris will know as well as anyone, it’s a very emotional roller coaster.”
The presenter also opened up about a difficult moment following a hospital visit, telling his followers: “I was in tears when I left the hospital with my son Miles on Friday.”
Alongside the health update, Bob announced a new development in his work, revealing that he and @3bweb have launched a brand-new playlist service through his website.
He also remains committed to appearing at his Stand By Me Concert with Robert Plant and his friends at the Royal Albert Hall in December, reinforcing his plans to continue working and looking well beyond his current treatment.
Bob said: “I know I’ll be there onstage at my Stand By Me Concert with Robert Plant and all my friends at the Royal Albert Hall on 2 December and beyond, so I am still working and looking way into the future.”
He finished by thanking people for the messages and support he has received, while offering encouragement to anyone facing their own difficult circumstances.
His message was clear: “NEVER GIVE IN. Fight with all your might to keep going.”
