James Buckley remains tight-lipped on The Inbetweeners return
James Buckley joked but was firmly guarded on Radio X this morning as Chris Moyles once again pressed him on the long-running rumours that The Inbetweeners is returning.
The actor, best known for playing Jay Cartwright, insisted he has no inside information on any revival and suggested he only ever hears speculation at the same time as fans.
He said that every couple of years someone tells him the show is coming back, leaving him to disappoint people who assume he knows more than he does.
Buckley explained that he is constantly approached by excited fans who think a reboot is confirmed, but he has to tell them he has heard nothing official.
During the on-air chat, Moyles asked whether he would return if the show were revived, prompting Buckley to say he would “have to think about it,” joking that negotiations would be essential.
He then jokingly wondered whether any reboot might be happening without him, setting up the moment for Moyles to tease him with mock “news” that his character had been written out entirely.
The presenter joked that Buckley’s fan-favourite character Jay had been killed off, suggesting a new whodunit-style plot beginning at Jay’s funeral.
Buckley went along with the gag, adding that it sounded like a Knives Out version of The Inbetweeners, with every returning cast member present except Jay himself.
The exchange left fans no clearer on whether a revival is genuinely in the works, but Buckley’s humour and reluctance to confirm anything suggest that if something is happening, he remains as in the dark as everyone else. For now, the speculation continues, and Buckley appears perfectly happy to keep audiences guessing!
