Pet Classics returns to Classic FM to calm animals during fireworks

As we enter the fireworks season, Classic FM will once again create a calm space for pets and their owners with the return of its much-loved Pet Classics programmes.
The two special shows will air on Bonfire Night, Wednesday 5 November, from 5pm to 9pm with Dan Walker, and again on Saturday 8 November with Charlotte Hawkins in the same time slot.
Designed to coincide with the noisiest evenings of the year, the programmes aim to create a calming retreat for animals unsettled by fireworks.
Now in its eighth year, Pet Classics is produced in collaboration with the RSPCA and sponsored by Go.Compare Pet Insurance. It features a soothing mix of classical music, combined with expert advice to help keep pets relaxed and reassured.
The RSPCA says almost two-thirds of UK pet owners report that their animals are affected by fireworks, and that playing gentle, familiar music can be one of the most effective ways to ease their anxiety.
New for this year, Charlotte Hawkins is also presenting a weekly Pet Classics series every Friday at 9pm until the end of October.
Presenter Dan Walker said: “It’s such a special programme to present. It’s always lovely to hear what our listeners and their pets are up to, but it’s also about the calming classical music and the practical advice for anyone who might be struggling.”
Charlotte Hawkins added: “We know that classical music has a positive and calming effect on humans and animals, and I can’t wait to see that in action through the thousands of photos and videos we receive.”
The station will also share listener photos and messages across its social channels throughout the two evenings, celebrating the nation’s pets as they enjoy a peaceful night in.
