Reneé Rapp reveals Isle of Wight obsession on Capital Breakfast

Pop star and Broadway sensation Reneé Rapp surprised listeners to Capital Breakfast this morning with a revelation.

She told Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby that she had recently considered buying Queen Victoria’s former home on the Isle of Wight.

The Mean Girls star explained that she has developed a fascination with the island, calling it her “favourite holiday spot”, even though she admitted that friends and family often questioned her enthusiasm.

“I said that thinking everyone was going to be like, ‘Ah yes, it’s the UK’s Cape Cod!’” Reneé told the hosts. “I thought people were going to be so into it, and everyone’s just like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I like it.”

During the chat, Jordan North pointed out that Queen Victoria also favoured the island, which led Reneé to say that she had even looked into buying one of the royal’s properties. “I think one of her houses is for sale and I considered getting it,” she admitted, before adding that she sent the listing to her family group chats to see who might help with the upkeep.

The conversation took an unexpected turn when the hosts revealed a surprise from the island itself.

Sian Welby presented Reneé with a T-shirt and announced that she was being asked to be an official Isle of Wight VIP and ambassador for Isle of Wight Pride.

Reacting live on air, Reneé asked: “There’s enough gay people on the Isle of Wight?” prompting more jokes from the team. Jordan North added: “All six of you are going to have the best weekend ever!”
