An MBE awarded to Ken Bruce in King’s Birthday Honours list
Ken Bruce has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours, for his services to radio, autism awareness and charity.
The former Radio 2 and now Greatest Hits Radio presenter, who has been a broadcaster for over 45 years, said it was a “great surprise and privilege”.
He also said that he hopes receiving the Honour will highlight the challenges facing autistic people after it took three years for his son’s diagnosis. He wrote about his experience raising his autistic son Murray with his wife Kerith his 2009 autobiography, Tracks Of My Years.
Other broadcasters awarded Honours include former footballer and now broadcaster Ian Wright, most recently on 5 Live, who gets an MBE for services to Association Football and to charity.
Davina McCall, who has been hosting programmes on BBC Radio 2 recently, gets an MBE for services to broadcasting.
BBC Radio 4’s Sally Magnusson is recognised with an MBE for services to people with dementia and their carers.
Ritu Khurana from Resonance gets an MBE for services to music and broadcasting.
Dr Neslyn Watson-Druée, who established community radio service Colourful Radio was recognised with a CBE.
BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith receives a BEM for services to radio and to the community in Shropshire.
