Last week, Clarendon Fine Art in Mayfair hosted an online auction featuring ‘Terrible Art’ portraits of Heart Breakfast’s Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston.
Created by viral sensation Jamie Lee, known as @terribleartbyjamielee on Instagram, these unique artworks were auctioned in support of Global’s Make Some Noise.
Amanda expressed her excitement about the initiative, stating: “What a stroke of genius this was! I was so excited about this exhibition. It’s not every day you see your portrait in a Mayfair gallery!”
The collaboration was met with enthusiasm by Clarendon Fine Art, with Gallery Director Rachel Simkiss commenting: “When I first heard about Jamie Lee’s portraits, I was listening with my 10-year-old, and we absolutely loved the idea – art can provoke such joy and genuine reactions from people of all ages.
“That’s exactly why Clarendon Fine Art wanted to partner with Heart Breakfast and display these portraits in our gallery – art should be accessible, engaging, and sometimes just pure fun.”
Today, on Heart Breakfast, the team announced the final auction totals. Jamie Theakston’s portrait secured the highest bid at £2,400, while Amanda Holden’s piece followed closely at £2,250. With Clarendon Fine Art matching the funds raised, the total donation to Global’s Make Some Noise reached £9,250!
The buyer of Amanda’s portrait revealed on-air that it would be hung in “the guest loo”, whilst Jamie’s portrait was snapped up by a serious art collector whose identity remains a mystery!
On receiving the highest bid, Jamie Theakston said: “Unbelievably a lot of people were bidding on our portraits painted by Jamie Lee, and Amanda and I have been quite competitive these last 10 days. I can’t believe a proper collector of art has bought my picture – wow!”
Artist Jamie Lee was thrilled about the experience, saying: “It was unbelievable to see my work on display in Clarendon’s amazing Mayfair gallery, next to real artists as well. Working with Clarendon and Heart Breakfast to raise money for such a fantastic cause is amazing, even more so if you’ve seen my paintings!”
Because of the success of this event, Clarendon Fine Art is now going to hold a solo exhibition in the heart of Mayfair with an expanded collection of Jamie Lee’s humorous and viral celebrity portraits, and all proceeds going to Global’s Make Some Noise charity.
Amanda Holden jokingly added: “I’ll tell you who I’ll get to sit for you. I’ll get Alan Carr to sit for you! You could literally whip one up whilst you’re in the gallery.”
