Sian Welby returns to Capital Breakfast in style… on a bus!
Perhaps not the mode of transport she’d normally take to work, but Sian Welby returned to Capital Breakfast this morning on a bus!
Well, it wasn’t any old bus – it was a surprise from co-hosts Jordan North and Chris Stark, who sent a Capital Breakfast branded open top bus to pick her up from home to take her to Capital Studios HQ.
Sian was also surprised with a brass band on the open top bus and Rizzle Kicks joined the show too.
Once back in the studio, Sian was left shocked and surprised when she was reunited with one of her midwives, Natalie, who was in the studio.
Sian was talking about her pregnancy and how much she loved every minute of it, but there were some scary moments.
She explained: “So suddenly, when it got to the last few weeks, when things started going a bit weird, it really threw me, because I’d had such a simple time.
“And now they were doing, you know, checks, and the bump hadn’t really grown, and then they were doing heart monitor checks on my on my tummy, and you know, every time I had sort of mini contractions, the baby’s heart rate was going up and down. And so it was suddenly quite worrying.”
Sian also praised the two midwives, Natalie and Vicki, who looked after her and were very supportive.
It was then that Chris said: “So me and Jordan and the guys here want to do a little surprise for you this morning and I’m feeling emotional now about this. So please, welcome to the show one of your amazing midwives. Natalie!”
A very shocked and emotional Sian gave Natalie a hug and then said how amazing it was that Natalie was there as she knew it was outside of her comfort zone.
Explaining how Natalie had helped her to prepare for everything, even the C section, Sian said to Natalie: “I’m so grateful that you talked me through everything, and were like, just do whatever you think’s right and take your time. But there must be a lot so much pressure being a midwife, because every single birth is so different, isn’t it?”
Natalie responded: “I don’t think it matters how many births like you’re at, everyone has an individual experience, and everybody needs something different.
“Yeah, everyone is different, and there’s a lot of responsibility for all of us, but there’s a lot of joy as well. Yeah. I mean, you love your job. I know you do. I do? Yeah, I feel so privileged and so lucky to have found something that like I’m good at.”
