Sam Thompson and 11 year old schoolboy go viral chatting about ADHD

Eleven-year-old Thomas Millington from Cheshire has become an internet sensation after a chat between the Year 6 schoolboy and Hits Radio presenter Sam Thompson went viral.

The pair had been chatting as part of Sam’s One Million Steps School Challenge – the fundraiser that Sam is spearheading for children’s charity Cash for Kids.

The charity is currently fundraising to help combat holiday hunger – a huge issue for some of the UK’s most vulnerable families come the long summer holidays when so many children in receipt of free school meals are at home.

Having arranged a Zoom call for Sam to chat to Thomas about why he wanted to his school to take part in the challenge the pair bonded over their ADHD diagnosis’ and having a shared ‘superpower’, with the subsequent video now seen over 1million times with 1.3million views on Sam’s Instagram.

Thomas had originally heard about the Challenge on Hits Radio and asked his school to take part, thinking there would be children in his own school that would benefit, a sentiment that Jenni Ogden, Headteacher of Wolverham Primary School in Ellesmere Port agreed with.

She said: “As a school, we are so proud of Thomas in every way. His understanding of the challenges that some of our community are facing shows an awareness beyond his years. Each holiday, we run a holiday club here that uses some of the funds that Cash for Kids are fundraising for.

“Thomas came up with the idea to take part in the ‘One Million Steps Challenge’. To be able to meet with Sam virtually was amazing for him, and he thought of the questions to ask him himself. His celebrity status has rocketed today and has helped create such a buzz for raising even more money!

“Thomas has accepted his ADHD diagnosis, understands how it shapes him and his thinking and like Sam says, he is using it to do so much good in the world – we need more people like Thomas!”
