Father-of-four from Kent wins life-changing sum thanks to Heart’s Make Me A Millionaire

Heart listener Paul Clymer was made Britain’s newest millionaire live on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden earlier this morning.

The father-of-four from Kent won a life-changing £1,000,000 in the dramatic live final of Heart’s Make Me A Millionaire, the biggest game on UK radio, which is now in its third year.

Over the past 15 weeks, hundreds of winners have taken home prizes ranging from £1,000 to £30,000, with 39 contestants opting to forgo a cash prize for the chance to be in the Million Pound Final. They travelled from across the UK – including Glasgow, Swansea and Devon – to Heart’s Leicester Square studios in central London to take part, all with the dream of becoming Britain’s next millionaire.

Throughout this morning’s show, finalists were selected at random to enter the ‘Make Me a Millionaire Vault’ and choose a box, only one of which contained the prize. All safety deposit boxes were securely sealed and kept under strict lock and key, with only an independent adjudicator aware of their contents.

Paul Clymer was crowned the ultimate winner after selecting the winning box, which was Box Number 30, the same number as his daughter’s birthday.

Paul said: “I came here for the experience, not coming here thinking I was going to win. It’s just surreal at the moment. It’s crazy, crazy times.”

Martyne Thompson, Paul’s partner of 20 years said: “I’m in shock. I honestly didn’t think this would happen. I was just looking forward to a nice day out.”

Paul plans to take a holiday before buying their family home, which is currently rented, in Kent – or maybe a somewhere abroad but right now they are taking time to think about it.

Jamie Theakston commented: “What an incredible journey it’s been over the past 15 weeks on Heart’s Make Me a Millionaire. Since the game began back in February, hundreds of Heart listeners have won thousands of pounds.

“There’s been high drama, suspense, emotion, and more than a few happy tears along the way, and it’s all been building up to today, the hotly anticipated Million Pound Final. What a day it has been!
