Radio Marsden, the hospital radio service for the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospitals in London and Surrey has launched an extra station playing Christmas music.
But this station will play festive music starting in the 1940s and include today’s Christmas tunes, plus extra content such as a daily update from Santa.
There’ll also be coverage of events taking place in the hospital over the festive season, Christmas dedications for patients chosen by staff, and seasonal programming co-produced with the hospital chaplaincy.
Steve Palmer, Radio Marsden’s Programme Controller, commented, “Christmas is the most exciting time of year at Radio Marsden, so being able to launch a channel dedicated to our Christmas output is really exciting!”
The station launched at 6pm on Monday 1st December, with a special live show hosted by Neal Mullery, which was also simulcast on Radio Marsden. The station will broadcast online throughout December and the TuneIn app.
The station adds: “We’d like to thank Times Square Shopping Centre, Sutton, our station sponsor. We also thank PSquared for their generous support in making Radio Marsden Christmas a reality, and Devaweb for their help with production.
“Radio Marsden’s studio and racks room was rebuilt in December 2013 thanks to the fantastic efforts of our supporters. The station is now ‘all-IP’, using Axia Audiosystems, giving the station the flexibility to run one-off projects like Radio Marsden Christmas – no new cables required, phew!”
