Simon James, previously heard on Kerrang, Virgin Radio and a number of local stations is joining online station Vale Radio to host Planet 80s.
The former Hallam FM, Radio Aire and Minster FM presenter will host an hour-long show each week playing “the rarely played singles and album tracks from the 80s, whilst also exploring the catalogues of the more established artists in greater detail”.
Simon said “It’s going to be a deep delve into my own collection. Most 80s programmes tend to only focus on the big hits and the more obvious top 40 stuff. However, there were so many other interesting records and bands around that not everyone may have even heard before. So in that sense, although it’s a retrospective programme, it may also introduce listeners to something new.”
Simon James, once partnered will Hill (James Burrell) for the “Simon James and Hill” show on Hallam FM, Radio City, Kerrang! and Radio Aire, and was most recently on Radio Yorkshire with an 80s show.
Station Director Chris Marsden adds: “I’m so chuffed to have been asked by Simon to join the great team of broadcasters here at Vale Radio. Having the likes of ex-BBC and Chiltern Radio presenters on the air already, will just add to the brilliant line-up. A legend such as Simon James and his wealth of musical knowledge on Vale Radio will demonstrate that we are not a fly by night Bedroom FM.”
