Michael Sheen will step behind the microphone to present BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show later this month.
The actor, who will be sitting in for Mark Radcliffe, will share a personal selection of folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond.
A long-time fan of the show, Michael has chosen tracks that reflect his lifelong love of the genre, from revival classics to contemporary releases from Wales.
His playlist includes music from South Wales folk rock collective MWSOG, featuring vocals from Mari Mathias, alongside a formative favourite from progressive rock band Jethro Tull.
Listeners will also hear songs by modern folk artists Kate Rusby and The Unthanks, with each choice linked to personal memories and influences from across Sheen’s life.
Speaking about hosting the programme, Sheen said: “The Folk Show has been such a big source of pleasure and inspiration for me over the years so to be entrusted with steering its course for a week is a rare privilege and one I take huge pride in.”
The special edition of the Folk Show gives listeners the chance to hear a different side of the award-winning actor as he explores the music and artists that have inspired him over the years, while also shining a spotlight on contemporary Welsh folk alongside established names from across the UK.
Michael Sheen presents the Folk Show on BBC Radio 2 at 9pm on Wednesday 29 July.
