Violet Grohl shares inspiration behind new song and album on Radio X
Singer-songwriter Violet Grohl appeared on Radio X last night with Dan O’Connell, revealing the story behind her new track, her record deal, and her debut album.
The new song, 595, was inspired by a “sex phone line t-shirt” that her father Dave Grohl tried to hide in his studio.
“It says ‘$5.95 per call,’ and there were so many little lines on the shirt that were just so perfect. We were like, ‘This is incredible. We should write a song about this!’” she explained.
Violet also responded to her father’s claim that she kept her record deal a secret. She said it wasn’t intentional: “It just kind of happened that way. We were both busy, catching up at dinner, and that was the week’s endeavour.”
Fans can also look forward to her debut album, Be Sweet To Me, which Violet has been working on since 2024.
She described the record as inspired by bands including Soundgarden and The Breeders, and detailed how she and producer Justin Raisen crafted it using a playlist of tracks that influenced them during the studio sessions. “The sound just kind of clicked into place. I’ve got a really great team,” she said.
