Ed Gamble reflects on interviewing Robert De Niro for Off Menu

Speaking on Radio X, Ed Gamble has described his experience interviewing Robert De Niro for his Off Menu as “amazing” despite the actor’s reputation for being tricky in interviews.

In a conversation with Chris Moyles and Dominic Byrne, Ed said he could not refuse the opportunity to host De Niro.

He revealed the actor was surprisingly cooperative, even if at times he gave minimal responses like “Whatever’s good” when asked about his dream menu.

Ed said the interview was conducted face-to-face in a London hotel, rather than in their usual studio, adding a sense of occasion to the recording.

He also recounted a brief encounter with Rob Brydon on the way to the interview, who wished him luck, joking that it felt “ominous”.

The podcast host praised the live shows of Off Menu, saying the variety of guests keeps each episode fresh, even when handling high-profile stars who might be considered challenging.
