Embrace singer Danny McNamara warns couples over Fireworks wedding song

Embrace frontman Danny McNamara surprised Radio X listeners with unexpected wedding advice.

Joining Chris Moyles on his Breakfast Show this morning, Danny discussed the enduring popularity of Embrace songs at weddings while revealing that one fan favourite may not suit romantic celebrations.

The conversation began after listeners shared personal stories about using the band’s music during important life moments.

Chris read a message from listener Susie, who celebrated her twentieth wedding anniversary today after choosing the Embrace track Gravity as her first dance song.

He also highlighted another listener, Joe, who plans to use the same song during his wedding celebrations later this year.

Danny warmly welcomed the messages and praised the song’s emotional connection for couples choosing it for such a personal moment.

He confirmed Gravity was written as a love song and said its meaning made it an appropriate and popular wedding choice.

“It’s really good that it’s Gravity as well, because that is actually a love song, whereas Fireworks is about the death of a relationship,” he said. “And I get people who say, ‘We had Fireworks at our wedding,’ and I’m like, ‘Are you sure you want that one?’”

The discussion formed part of McNamara’s appearance promoting the band’s music and reconnecting with fans through Radio X.

Chris and Dominic Byrne continued discussing the strong personal links fans develop with songs, noting how wedding music often becomes deeply connected with memories and relationships.

Danny agreed, reflecting on how audiences often attach their own meanings to songs regardless of the original inspiration behind the lyrics.
