Josh Widdicombe jokes on Radio X about Parenting Hell podcast edit
Josh Widdicombe was left red-faced on Radio X this morning after Chris Moyles called him out for brushing off a story from Rob Beckett on their Parenting Hell podcast.
The comedian was a guest on The Chris Moyles Breakfast Show alongside Rob Beckett’s long-time radio colleague Dominic Byrne.
Chris Moyles pointed out just how successful the podcast has become, before highlighting a moment from a recent episode centred on Rob Beckett’s Christmas break.
Beckett had just turned forty, gone on holiday, spotted a celebrity on the outward flight, and then unexpectedly bumped into Moyles at the airport on the way home.
Moyles revealed that Widdicombe had no idea Beckett would mention him on the podcast, despite Josh already being booked to appear on his Breakfast show that same week. Moyles then played a clip from Parenting Hell to the studio, much to Widdicombe’s surprise.
In the clip, Beckett casually mentions seeing Chris Moyles on the flight. Widdicombe responds by immediately pointing out that he is appearing on Moyles’ show to promote his podcast, before swiftly changing the subject to Lapland UK.
After hearing the edit back, Moyles reacted with mock disbelief, replaying Josh’s apparent lack of interest in Beckett’s celebrity encounter. “Wow. Josh, really?” Moyles joked, highlighting how quickly the conversation moved on.
Widdicombe was quick to defend himself, laughing as he blamed the edit rather than his enthusiasm.
“I’ve been done in the edit,” he insisted. “There was three or four minutes of chat about how excited I was about bringing it up. I don’t know what it is. The bods upstairs, they’ve absolutely done me.”
Dominic Byrne admitted he had never heard the Parenting Hell clip before, as Moyles continued to tease Widdicombe about his priorities.
