Sara Pascoe tells Radio X why she avoids comedy gigs at Christmas
Speaking on Radio X, comedian Sara Pascoe has revealed the real reason she avoids performing gigs during the festive season.
She admitted that she’s “not strong enough” to deal with the chaos that comes with overexcited Christmas crowds.
Appearing on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning, Sara was talking to Chris and Dominic Byrne about her tour schedule and her decision to take December and January off.
The Out of Her Mind star explained that while it might look like she’s constantly touring, her shows are spaced out and that taking a break over Christmas is very deliberate.
Chris asked if she was actually taking December off, to which Sara confirmed: “Pretty much, yeah. Gigs go really weird in December, because of Christmas groups. I’m not strong enough!”
She went on to describe what can happen when festive crowds get carried away, telling listeners: “People who don’t drink for the rest of the year… they get a bit too much before they’ve had dinner. There’s vomit to navigate, yeah.”
The exchange had Chris and Dom in fits of laughter, with Sara joking that Dominic should try performing at a Christmas gig just to see the other side of it.
Sara, who’s currently touring her stand-up show across the UK, said her schedule is more balanced than it looks, performing around three shows a week with longer breaks in between. She’ll return to the stage in February after her well-earned festive rest.
