Greg Davies admits on Radio X fear of Shirlie Kemp’s ‘big mum energy’

Comedian and Nevermind The Buzzcocks host Greg Davies has revealed that filming a recent 1980s-themed special of the show left him slightly intimidated.
Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning, he said it was by none other than Shirlie Kemp of pop duo Pepsi & Shirlie.
He described the moment he found himself dressed as George Michael while facing the duo on set.
“In fact, I can remember the only time I did stand-up this series,” Davies recalled. “It was alright, but I was dressed as George Michael, so it was a little bit uncomfortable.”
He explained that the special episode featured 1980s icons Pepsi and Shirlie as guests, but things took an unexpected turn.
“Great fun, Pepsi and Shirlie,” he said. “Slightly afraid of Shirlie, it turns out. She’s got big mum energy. She was pleasant and polite, but there’s an air of mum-like authority to that lady. I really liked it.”
Davies went on to describe how the sketch came about, saying: “Every time we say we’ll do a funny sketch, everyone agrees and then one by one they drop out. So there I was, dressed as George Michael, in front of Pepsi and Shirlie, their friend who’s no longer with us. That sounds like a good sketch!”
Tune into The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X weekdays from 6.30am – 10am and on Global Player.
