Chris McCausland says Strictly tears helped him open up emotionally

Chris McCausland says crying in front of millions on Strictly Come Dancing helped him become more open and honest in writing his new autobiography.

Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning, the comedian said the experience allowed him to be “less protective” and to show “another side” of himself. He admitted he couldn’t have written the same book a year ago, before appearing on the BBC show.

“I wouldn’t have been as open and I wouldn’t have shared as much,” he told Moyles. “Once you’ve cried on the telly in front of ten million people, you’re a little bit less protective.”

Chris said he found writing about his career in comedy surprisingly difficult, describing it as the hardest part to make feel original. Instead, reflecting on his sight loss and personal growth came more naturally, helped by the emotional impact of his Strictly journey.

He added that sharing vulnerability on television led to a wave of supportive messages from viewers, which changed his perspective on openness and connection. “It really hit home,” he said.
