Roman Kemp reveals the reason why he left Capital Breakfast
Roman Kemp says that one of the reasons why he left Capital is because he’s still processing the death of his friend and former producer Joe Lyons.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Kemp said hosting the station’s Breakfast show over the past four years was like reliving the horrible day of the death of his friend Joe.
Roman was mid-way through his radio show in August 2020 when he found out that Joe had taken his own life.
He says he went through such a horrible moment in the studio on that day, adding: “Four years on and I’ve been living that same day over and over again, without the awful event.”
After 10 years at Capital and seven years on Breakfast, Roman said: “For me, I’m quite ready to go ‘OK, close that door now, don’t keep going back living that horrible day over again’.
“That’s sad that obviously affects me but it does. Every day I walk in there and I see Joe, that’s a weird thing to do. I think it’s going to be really good for me to move on with my life.
“I had an opportunity in my life, I can go and enjoy my life for a bit, and I want to enjoy what I have achieved.”
He says that he doesn’t any other radio worked lined-up at the moment, but after being on air every day and not giving himself time to rest, it came to the point of “I need to leave this behind now”.
