Big birthday surprise for Heart listener who wins £1million

Heart listener Margaret Coetzer, who turns 40 today, became Britain’s newest millionaire live on Heart Breakfast this morning.

She won the life-changing amount in the live final of Heart’s Make Me A Millionaire. Ten finalists took part in the Million Pound Final, before Margaret, who lives in Bracknell, was crowned the winner of the biggest prize on British radio.

Over the past 12 weeks, hundreds of winners have taken home prizes ranging from £1,000 to £25,000, with 10 contestants opting to turn down a cash prize for the chance to be in the Million Pound Final.

Finalists travelled from across the UK – including South Wales, Norfolk, and Wolverhampton – to the station’s Leicester Square studios in central London to take part in the final.

Throughout this morning’s show with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, finalists entered the ‘vault’ and chose a box, only one of which contained the prize. All safety deposit boxes were securely sealed and kept under strict lock and key, with only the independent adjudicator aware of their contents. Margaret was crowned the winner after selecting the winning box.

Speaking about her win, Margaret said: “It is unreal, it’s amazing, I’ve had doubts from the beginning, my husband has been so positive saying, ‘You’ve got this, you’ve got this, it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be’, I was a wreck yesterday but he was like, ‘What’s meant to be will be’, there’s more deserving people out there than us.”
