Absolute Radio brings listeners together to form a band
Dreams of being a rockstar have been brought to life for six lucky Absolute Radio listeners.
The station brought them together to form a band, recording a song and playing it on air to an audience of over 5 million people.
Breakfast Show host Dave Berry and his team had the idea to give mums and dads who used to play in bands in their younger years, the chance to play again.
Listeners were invited to send in videos as part of an audition process that ran across the Breakfast show.
The lucky winners who secured their place in ‘The Band of Mum & Dad’ are Phil Knight (Drummer), Darren Richardson (Bass), Paul Jones (Rhythm Guitar), Wayne Dorman (Lead Guitar), Freda Marsh (Keys) and Vanessa Knight (Lead Vocals).
They all headed to the Absolute Radio building in London to record a cover of Kings of Leon’s ‘Sex on Fire’, a song chosen by other listeners and their version was played out on air today.

Speaking about the project, Dave Berry said: “At Absolute Radio we’re the station where ‘real music matters’ and for many listeners, music has been something that they might have had fun creating and playing in their younger years – but due to the steady passage of time and having children, have since had to put on the backburner.
“But no more! Thanks to The Band of Mum and Dad, these six talented individuals are able to relive their dreams, and what a journey it’s been! Culminating in this amazing performance broadcast today, I couldn’t be prouder of this amazing group of people. And we hope it shows, it’s never too late to chase your dreams.”
Listen to The Dave Berry Breakfast Show every weekday morning from 6am on Absolute Radio.
