Max George talks about 18 months of sobriety on Hits Radio
The Wanted’s Max George, speaking to Fleur East on the Hits Radio Breakfast show this week, talked about his upcoming tour with the band, passing his driving test (after 7 tries) and quitting drinking.
Asked if he would be getting back into the wild tour lifestyle Max said: “I haven’t drank in 18 months, everyone says ‘I bet you feel well better don’t you?’ No, I just feel really bored at weekends! Just grim as usual through the week. It has been good, it’s easier to keep fit… so yeah everything’s pretty clear now.”
Max shared other perks from giving up drinking: “I passed my driving test which is good, only took 32 years and seven tests! All my test always came on Monday’s, so I always felt awful (after the weekend), but I passed on a Thursday morning,” he revealed.
His driving skills may not be quite up to par just yet, as he admitted: “I crashed into the front door of my vets. I was taking my dog to the vet, and the one space available… I thought oh no that’s tight. I was concentrating so much on the sides of my car that I didn’t look forward, I went into the front door of my vets.”
The Wanted have a tour coming up soon and Max told Hits Radio listeners there’s a good reason to go and see them: “It’s our first tour in 8 years and we are genuinely pushing it to make this the best we’ve ever done; our rehearsals are twice as long as usual, and we are better looking than we’ve ever been,” he said.
Max, who is also part of the Hits Radio team, also spoke about his Friday evening show on the station: “I’m here to get your weekend started, so 7-10pm every Friday, I play loads of throwbacks but also I get to play new stuff as well so it’s a real mix. Its my favourite show of the week apart from the Breakfast Show!”
