Well over £1.5m raised in Radio 2’s Joe Wicks 24 Hour PE Workout
When Joe Wicks completed his 24 Hour PE Workout at 9.25 this morning for Radio 2’s BBC Children in Need 2020 Challenge, the total amount stood at £152020, but it hasn’t stopped there!
On completing the Challenge, Joe told Zoe Ball on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show: “I feel like so buzzed… I need to say thank you for supporting me BBC Radio 2 these 24 hours, we’ve made an amazing amount of money.
“Thank you to everyone who’s sponsored and donated… who knows I may even be back next year!”
Zoe asked Joe, what’s the first thing he’s going to do after finishing and he answered: “Bounce all over the room and then get to my hotel bedroom and sleep as much as I can.”
When Zoe revealed to him the total amount raised so far, Joe did a cartwheel on the stage where his wife then joined him to give him a huge hug. He jumped around raising a Pudsey bear in the air before taking a well-earned sit down.
During the 24 hour challenge, Joe was Zoom joined by surprise guests to spur him on, including Sam Smith, Kimberly Wyatt, Josh Groban, Frank Lampard, Mel C, Stefanie Reid MBE, Ore Oduba, Wayne and Frankie Bridge, Marvin Humes, , Katie Piper, Dame Sarah Story, Abz from 5ive, Matt Baker, Claudia Winkleman, Denise Lewis, Louis Theroux, Dame Kelly Holmes, Tim Peake, Tom Kerridge, Mark Cavendish, Max Whitlock and James Bay.
He’s been doing HIIT work outs, rowing machine, treadmill, boxing, cycling, cross-trainer, dancing, and stretching, burning over 10,000 calories.
Helen Thomas, Head of Station, Radio 2, said: “An enormous thank you and congratulations to Joe Wicks. His unbelievable effort has raised an incredible £1,520,020 for BBC Children in Need with his 24 Hour PE Challenge on Radio 2. Powered largely by crumpets and chocolate with some support from fantastic guests joining him remotely to spur him on.
“This achievement will change the lives of thousands of children across the UK. Thank you to all our wonderful Radio 2 listeners who have donated and the tireless efforts of the production team behind the scenes.”
Joe ended by holding a 20 mins HIIT workout for children in schools around the country to take part in to finish the challenge with him.
