Here’s how you can experience Woodstock exactly 50 years on

Woodstock 50, the event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the festival has been cancelled, but a US radio station is going to broadcast the full original recording of the festival, exactly 50 years after it took place.

Philadelphia radio station, WXPN came up with the idea after Woodstock 50 was cancelled due to experiencing months of problems.

The broadcast, Woodstock — As It Happened — 50 Years On, is billed as a revisit to Woodstock, as it went down.

For three days the station will play reconstructed audio archives of the festival’s 32 performances, starting with Richie Havens’ opening set to Jimi Hendrix’s closing one and everything in between, in as close to real time as possible.

It starts this Thursday, August 15 at 5:07 pm local time and runs until Sunday morning. The entire original recording from 1969 will be aired and will feature every performance, set breaks and stage announcements.

WXPN is a public service station and is encouraging people from anywhere in the world to listen as the broadcast will be available online, on your mobile device, or through your smart speakers. You can go to the station website to listen live.

The station is also encouraging people to join the community using the hashtag #XPNStock on social media.
