Ralf Little shares Will Mellor theatre mishap on Radio X

Ralf Little and Will Mellor brought a mix of friendship and comedy to The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, sharing a story from a recent theatre visit that quickly turned awkward.

The actors, who are also long-time friends, appeared on the Breakfast show this morning, where Ralf revealed how Will attended a performance of John le Carré’s The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, only to unintentionally offend people sitting nearby.

Will explained that he had travelled to Cheltenham to support Ralf’s stage performance ahead of recording their podcast the following day, but admitted he struggled to follow the production.

He said: “I went to see Ralf’s play – not a clue what’s going on,” prompting Ralf to recount what happened next in the audience.

According to Ralf, Will initially tried to show his support by standing up for a solo standing ovation, before realising no one else had joined in and awkwardly sitting back down.

The situation escalated after the applause ended, when Will turned to nearby audience members and commented on the play, unaware they were closely connected to the cast.

Will said: “I turned around and went, ‘Rubbish that, weren’t it? I didn’t understand a word!’ But I didn’t know they were family and friends of the cast.”

The moment prompted laughter in the studio, with host Chris Moyles and the team reacting to the misunderstanding as Will insisted his comments had been intended as a joke.

Ralf added context to the story, explaining that he had recognised people sitting near Will at the time, making the situation even more uncomfortable from his perspective.
