Will Smith admits North Pole dive was more terrifying than acting roles

Will Smith has revealed that scuba diving under the ice at the North Pole was the most terrifying experience of his life, surpassing even his demanding acting roles.

Speaking to Capital XTRA on the red carpet at the premiere of his new Disney+ series Pole to Pole with Will Smith, the actor and musician compared his real-life adventures to iconic characters he has portrayed on screen.

When asked whether filming Pole to Pole, portraying Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happiness, or playing Muhammad Ali in Ali was more challenging, Smith highlighted the different kinds of difficulty each presented.

He said Ali was “the greatest physical challenge” of his acting career, and playing Gardner involved a “special kind of life difficulty,” but the North Pole dive truly tested him.

“That was the most terrified that I’ve ever been, you know, doing anything, a stunt or something like that,” Smith told Capital XTRA. “Scuba diving under the ice at the North Pole really tested my ability to relax in difficult situations!”

Pole to Pole with Will Smith follows the star as he travels to extreme environments around the globe, pushing both his physical and mental limits while exploring diverse cultures and ecosystems.
