Joel Dommett reveals The Masked Singer secrets on Hits Radio

Broadcaster Joel Dommett joined Fleur East and the team on Hits Radio Breakfast to spill some behind the scenes secrets on his hit show The Masked Singer.

He also revealed what it’s like to get up close and personal with the Gladiators.

Talking about the former Masked Singer judge Rita Ora, Joel said:  “She would not really know who anyone was – and she had no guesses – so she would go through her phone and pick the first person who came up in her contacts, just pick someone really, really famous! She was great but Maya is a great replacement too.”

He also revealed that he often gets the show’s iconic catchphrase ‘take it off’ shouted at him a lot and at one point people were shouting it at his house.

“I had to get a gate and make the hedge bigger because people kept knocking on my door shouting ‘take it off’ and then running away,” he said.

As for appearing on the Celebrity version of the Gladiators, Joel said that  Rob Beckett is ‘like a little terrier’.

“He’s got such a solid base, one of his legs look like two of mine, he’s got solid foundations,” he said. “So when that pugil stick is hitting him he’s not going anywhere, whereas I’m like a little twig, I’m all over the shop… I did not last well when those fake tanned men were hitting me in the face.

“I’ll give you some background information –  the fake tan up close is unbelievable it’s think it’s got glitter in it, it’s like they’ve bathed in gravy and it makes them look incredible!”
