Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio celebrates its first birthday
A milestone was reach today as the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky celebrated its first birthday and was added to new station, Virgin Radio Groove, which officially launched today.
The launch of the new channel was marked with a takeover of Virgin Radio all day, beginning with the breakfast show.
Commenting on his first year back at the station, Chris Evans said: “This time last year I returned to my spiritual home at Virgin Radio and I have loved every minute of it since then.
“We instantly changed commercial radio forever – creating the first ad-break free breakfast show, thanks to our partnership with Sky. We are delighted with the listening figures and our numbers have continued to grow every month.
“Over the next year our plan for the breakfast show is simple; to continue to give it all we’ve got and have the most possible fun along the way.”
The most recent listening figures released by the radio industry’s body RAJAR, saw the show’s weekly audience increase to 1.114m listeners.
In an unusual move for commercial radio, the show doesn’t have an ad-breaks, but is sponsored by Sky.
It quickly established itself and over the last year has featured many A-list guests including Damian Lewis, Katherine Ryan, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, James Martin Nadiya Hussain, David Walliams, Billy Connolly, Seth Rogan, David Cameron, Ben Elton, and live sessions from bands including Kaiser Chiefs, Scouting For Girls and Feeder.
The new Virgin Radio Groove plays the best of dance and r&b, from the ’70s through to today with artists such as Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston through to ’00s tunes from the likes of Rihanna and David Guetta.
