Tinie Tempah has revealed how Afrojack insisted on joining his new single, To The Floor, in a surprise message that made their collaboration a full circle moment.
The rapper joined Jimmy Hill on The Capital Evening Show to celebrate the release of his first album in nine years, The Night’s Not Dead, and shared the story behind working with the internationally renowned DJ and producer.
Tinie explained that he had known Afrojack for around 15 years, but the collaboration came about after he had already recorded the track with Stargate and Tropkillaz.
Recalling the unexpected message he received, Tinie told Jimmy: “I just get this random video message on my WhatsApp and it is from Afrojack. And he is in the studio in LA with Stargate and he’s like ‘what is this?’”
He could hear the track playing in the background as Afrojack made his feelings clear, telling Tinie: “I need to be on this record.”
Tinie admitted it was not an everyday occurrence to receive such a message from the DJ, who wanted to get involved as soon as possible.
He continued: “So, I said, ‘mate, you’re the boss just do what you need to do, and I’d love to have you be part of it.’”
The collaboration was particularly meaningful because the pair had first met at the MTV Music Awards years earlier, making their work together on To The Floor a special moment in their long-standing connection.
Tinie also had news for fans of his television series Extraordinary Extensions, confirming that a fourth season is currently in production and could be arriving soon.
The rapper told Jimmy that he had completed the third season, which has already been released, before sharing the update about the next instalment.
Speaking about the popular series, he said: “For all of the people who are loving that show we are actually working on another season currently that should be airing pretty soon.”
Listen to The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill on Monday to Thursday from 7pm – 10pm across the UK and on YouTube.
