Zara Larsson has revealed why her unreleased music video with Shakira never saw the light of day, while confirming she is also exploring plans to launch her own makeup brand.
Speaking to Jimmy Hill on Capital, the Swedish singer explained that although a video for Girls Trip featuring Shakira was filmed, she decided against releasing it because it failed to meet the standards both artists deserved.
Asked whether the music video existed, Zara admitted the answer was both yes and no.
She said: “Something has been filmed. But also, it didn’t really come out well. I don’t think that’s anyone’s fault. I know that’s not anyone’s fault and that’s a soup of failure.”
Zara praised Shakira and said she did not want to release a video simply because of the high profile collaboration.
“She is such a star. She’s mega icon, legend, I’m very honoured to have her on Girls Trip. I think she deserves a really, really good video to be in,” she said. “I didn’t want to just release it to stroke my own ego and be like, ‘I got a video with Shakira.’ I still have big hopes and dreams that we could do something in video land for the song.”

The singer also shared details about another project that could become a reality. When Jimmy asked whether she would follow stars including Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga by launching her own beauty range, Zara confirmed discussions are already taking place.
She said the idea would only happen if her longtime makeup artist Sofia Sinot was involved, describing it as her dream project.
Zara explained: “We’re actually talking about it. Nothing has happened so far if I’m being honest. Me and Sofia Sinot, who does all my looks, we’ve spoken about it and that’s her dream.”
She added that she admired Lady Gaga’s approach because it combined the artist’s vision with the expertise of a professional makeup artist.
“If Sofia would want to do it with me then I would love to do it with her. I wouldn’t do it without her.”
While there is no launch date for a beauty brand, Zara made it clear that authenticity would be essential, saying she wanted to create products she genuinely believed in rather than simply adding her name to a collection.
