Sir Paul McCartney is set to feature in a special edition of Tracks of My Years on BBC Radio 2 later this month.
The music legend has recorded an in-depth interview with Vernon Kay, which will air at 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday 25 May on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
Vernon announced the news during his mid-morning show today and admitted he was overwhelmed by the experience of spending 90 minutes with one of the most celebrated songwriters in popular music.
He said: “It was special. It really was extra extra special. There was a moment where the room just fell silent. I couldn’t hear what Paul McCartney was saying because I was just in a trance staring at his face.”
The presenter added that McCartney was warm, engaging and full of stories, describing the interview as “Vern and Paul time” and one of the highlights of his broadcasting career.
In addition to choosing ten songs that have shaped his life, Paul reflects on his childhood, his earliest musical memories and the artists who inspired him.
There are also stories about The Beatles and their relationships with fellow music icons including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Brian Wilson, and bands such as The Rolling Stones and The Kinks.
Vernon also played a preview clip in which Paul discussed his relationship with Dylan, giving listeners an early taste of the conversation.
The interview comes as Paul prepares to release his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, on 29 May, his first studio album in more than five years.
