Sir Paul McCartney debuts new single Days We Left Behind on BBC Radio

Sir Paul McCartney premiered his new single Days We Left Behind in a world exclusive on BBC Radio this afternoon.

BBC Radio Merseyside received the first play at 2:50pm on The Afternoon Show with Lisa Marrey, giving listeners in McCartney’s hometown a first listen.

Earlier, BBC Radio 2 teased the release on Jeremy Vine’s show, and Trevor Nelson also played the track at 2:50pm during his 2-4pm slot.

In a recorded message aired on Radio 2, McCartney described the song as “very much a memory song” reflecting on his past in Liverpool.

He referenced Forthlin Road, where he once lived, and Dungeon Lane, a location near his childhood home that inspired the album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.

McCartney reflected on growing up in Speke, describing it as working class but full of warmth and community. He said the song captures those memories, explaining: “We didn’t have much at all, but…all the people were so great, and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”
