Jason Derulo hints at new era during Capital Breakfast appearance
Jason Derulo has spoken about entering a new chapter in his career during a Capital Breakfast interview.
The platinum selling singer joined Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby on the show this morning, which included a round of the programme’s Liar, Liar game alongside discussion about his future direction.
During the game, Derulo revealed an unexpected skill outside his music career. The presenters questioned whether he could genuinely work as a barber, prompting the singer to confirm his grooming talents.
Jason said: “I’m a really good barber. I cut my own hair sometimes. I didn’t today but I cut my own hair.”
The hosts reacted by praising his appearance, with Jordan remarking on what he described as one of the best trims in showbusiness.
Then conversation turned towards Derulo’s touring success and comments he has made about retirement.
The singer clarified he is not stepping away from performing but instead closing one phase of his career while preparing for another.
Jason said: “I’m retiring the Jason that you’ve once known. It is my final curtain call for that era that you’ve always known. I’ve been in this industry for 17 years and with that, you grow up.”
He continued explaining how his experiences have influenced his creative outlook and lifestyle choices. He described personal growth through both successes and setbacks, saying those experiences have shaped the direction he now wants his life and music to take.
Derulo said he is embracing different social environments and presenting himself differently, adding that his music will naturally reflect these personal changes. He described the transition as moving into a new stage of life while maintaining the drive that built his global career.
Jordan responded by welcoming the change, describing the development as an exciting moment for fans to witness. The discussion highlighted how long running pop careers often evolve alongside artists’ personal milestones and audience expectations.
Derulo has remained a consistent presence in international pop since his breakthrough in the late 2000s, producing multiple chart successes and platinum selling releases.
