Joel Dommett jokes about baby due date and Masked Singer slip
Joel Dommett brought showbiz stories and baby news to Capital Breakfast.
The comedian and television presenter joined Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby this morning, sharing personal updates and laughing about recent on-air mishaps during a chat on the show.
Dommett revealed he and his wife are expecting their second child in April, before admitting his tour schedule leaves very little room for manoeuvre around the due date.
He told the team he is set to play the London Palladium just four days before the baby is expected to arrive, prompting disbelief in the studio.
Sian Welby joked that Dommett seems to thrive on risky timing, pointing out that he also hosted the National Television Awards close to the birth of his first child. Dommett laughed, suggesting the pressure might actually help matters along at home.
The conversation then turned to The Masked Singer, where Dommett fronts the ITV show, and a recent moment where he accidentally revealed the identity of one of the contestants. Asked whether he had received any tellings-off, he admitted it was a genuine slip during filming.
“I did out Dermot O’Leary,” he said. “First time in seven series that I’ve let it slip out of my mouth. I heard the character laugh inside the costume and I was like, oh yeah it’s Dermot O’Leary.”
Sian Welby added her own story from the same week, recalling interviewing Dermot O’Leary on This Morning while guessing the masked performer could be Kylie Minogue, as he tried to steer the conversation away from himself.
Jordan North joked that he had expected Chris Stark to appear on the current series, with the team laughing about just how convincing the disguises can be, even for those working closely on the programme.
