Planet Rock to exclusively play unreleased Queen Christmas track
Queen guitarist and songwriter Brian May hosts a show on Planet Rock today and has a special treat for listeners!
It’s a Planet Rock exclusive as it’ll be the first time a previously unreleased Queen track – Not for Sale (Polar Bear) will be played.
Composed by Brian, the song was originally recorded during the sessions for Queen’s seminal 1974 album Queen II but did not make the final cut.
Now it has been remastered for the 2026 re-release of the album but is being played on Planet Rock before it’s heard on any other station.
Brian said: “People might possibly have heard a bootleg version of Not for Sale (Polar Bear) by Smile, it’s a song that goes back a very long way, but to my knowledge no one has ever heard this version.
“It’s a work in progress and will appear on the forthcoming rebuild of the Queen II album – coming next year – but I’m sneaking this into my Planet Rock special because I’m fascinated to know what people think about it. I hope people have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year!”
In this festive show, also repeated on Christmas Day, Brian invites listeners into his personal festive jukebox, sharing a hand‑picked selection of his favourite Christmas and seasonal tracks.
He also reflects on the music that has soundtracked his own Christmases over the years, offering stories, memories and insights that only one of rock’s most celebrated musicians can provide.

Brian May’s Planet Rock Christmas Special airs on Planet Rock tonight at 6pm, with a repeat broadcast on Christmas Day at 1pm. Ask your smart speaker to ‘Play Planet Rock’.
