220Kid lifts lid on chaotic experience at Fyre Festival sequel
DJ and producer 220Kid has shared stories from behind the scenes of the Fyre Festival while appearing on Capital Breakfast this morning.
Talking to Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, the chart star described his experience at the much talked about festival sequel as “chaotic”, surreal and unlike anything he has ever encountered before.
Speaking candidly on air, 220Kid revealed that the disorder began before he even arrived at the festival site. Recounting a nerve-wracking flight on a small private plane, he claimed, another DJ was allowed to take control of the aircraft.
He told the presenters the jet was an old Cessna from the 1970s and said the DJ had never flown a plane before, describing how it dipped up and down mid-air as he feared the worst.
The stories only escalated once the festival was underway, with 220Kid recalling moments that sounded closer to a reality TV stunt than a music event, including rapper Bobby Shmurda being stranded at sea after crashing a jet ski and losing the keys.
Food, a talking point from the original Fyre Festival, again came up, particularly for 220Kid as a vegetarian, after he shared footage online showing limited catering options available to him.
He explained, “I got in a bit of trouble for this” because while the non-vegetarian food looked amazing, his own choices were limited, a moment that quickly went viral, when he posted rice and corn, sparking backlash online, even surpassing the infamous cheese sandwich meme from the original festival.
Sian Welby defended the DJ during the interview, pointing out that vegetarian options should have been properly considered, especially at an event under such intense public scrutiny.
Asked whether it was the strangest festival he had ever played, 220Kid went further, saying it was the strangest experience of his life, recalling being casually offered activities like scuba diving without knowing how to do it.
Despite the chaos, he suggested the festival’s organiser appeared broadly satisfied, revealing that another one has already been announced for May, with 220Kid once again listed on the line-up.
When Chris Stark joked about the possibility of yet another documentary, the DJ hinted that more drama could be on the way, describing the experience as exhausting and emotionally intense.
Reflecting on it all, he admitted the aftermath had been so overwhelming that he was genuinely looking forward to therapy, saying the events were difficult to process and hard to put into words!
