Madness deliver intimate Radio 2 performance for In Concert special

Madness perform a rare, close-up BBC Radio 2 In Concert show at the BBC Radio Theatre in London, for a few hundred fans.

More than forty thousand Radio 2 listeners applied for tickets, with the chosen audience watching Camden’s finest run through some of their most recognisable hits.

One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers, It Must Be Love and Wings of a Dove all featured in a set that paired the band’s trademark energy with the warmth of the historic room.

On-air, this exclusive performance will be followed by a chat with Jo Whiley and the ‘Nutty Boys’, adding a personal layer to the night’s celebrations.

Madness says: “There’s nothing quite like playing in the BBC Radio Theatre, the intimate feel in that room just creates so much vibe and energy. It’s that kind of joy we live for, so we couldn’t ask for better, really!”

Jo Whiley, who has welcomed the band many times over the years, says the group always brings “fun, stories and tunes” whenever they appear, and she believes this concert will be particularly memorable.

You will be able to hear the full performance on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show from 7pm – 9pm on 11 December.

The concert will also be available on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer the same day, providing viewers with an extended version that includes a special festive rendition of a Christmas classic.

BBC Two will broadcast the performance on 20 December, with the exact transmission time confirmed on 2 December.
